pull the ebrake when you're stopped. Then when you want to go, depress the clutch pedal and put the car in gear, and rev the engine a touch, and start to release the clutch. when you feel the car start to motion forward, release the ebrake. the result is a transition from stopped to a forward direction, rather than rolling backwards until you have engaged the clutch. The fact that you're rolling backwards will/would scare you and make you either stall out or roast the tyres (or hit the person behind you). you're going to be nervous, try not to be. I've showed a couple people how to drive a stick, and when they try it for the first day or 2, they're so nervous you can visually see their left leg shaking. smooth transitions are key. Everytime you move forward w/o violently shaking, think good of yourself. you're starting to get it down.
